Description
Nos. 1-5 Inn Farm Court are former stables and haybarn ranges associated with a now-closed inn, which have been repurposed as farm buildings. They were constructed in the early 1830s using brick, with the southeast elevation featuring rubblestone that is dressed with brick. The buildings have slate roofs and are arranged in a letter-L plan, with a long stable frontage facing the road that is two storeys high. A corner cottage is located at one end, and there is a covered way linking to the haybarn on the southwest side. Together, these structures form two sides of a courtyard that is connected to the Inn Farmhouse. The road-facing front has tall pilaster strips that divide it into bays, and there are vent slits on the upper floor. The corner cottage is two storeys tall and features modern casement windows. The haybarn has vent slits arranged in patterns, is dressed with brick, has coped gables, and has had some windows inserted. Originally designed to accommodate 80 horses, the coaching trade declined with the arrival of the railways, leading to the inn's conversion into a farm.
