Description

The Old Rectory and The Wing is a house that was formerly a rectory, dating from the late 17th century. It was refronted in the 18th century, with a south block added around 1850, and a north service building. The structure is primarily made of brick, with a stone rear elevation, and features tile roofs, which are slated on the service blocks.

The east front has five bays, constructed in chequer brick from the 18th century, along with a two-bay gabled south block. There is a doorway on the left side of the 18th-century bays, which features a 19th-century flush two-panel door adorned with key pattern ornament at the top and bottom, and an arched fanlight set within a double recessed brick opening. The building has a moulded stone plinth and box sash windows, with a band course at the first floor. There are five first-floor sashes with shutters and three two-light dormers. The original five bays are flanked by stacks with moulded brick cornices from around 1690.

The Victorian south block is made of brick and includes a tripartite ground floor sash, a band course, and two first-floor sashes with shutters, along with an arched recess in the gable. The south front features two cement-rendered bay windows and three first-floor sashes. To the right of the house, set back, are two-storey hipped slated service buildings with sash windows. The rear elevation is stone with sashes and some blocked windows, some dating back to around 1690.

Inside, there is a closed string full-height staircase from around 1690, featuring turned balusters, as well as a 19th-century staircase with a wave mould at the tread ends.
