Description

Lathbury Park is a small country house built in 1801. It is constructed of coursed limestone with a slated hipped roof. The south front has two storeys and five bays. A rectangular central porch with a pediment and panelled Tuscan pilasters, added in the mid-19th century in Roman cement, is a later feature. The ground floor windows are arched with radiating glazing bars and an abacus band, while the first floor has flat-headed sash windows with a continuous sill band. The roof has moulded stone eaves. A northwest service range, built of stone, has three bays and two storeys, with sash windows and brick dentil eaves on a slate roof. This range was originally much longer but has been reduced to three bays.

Inside the house, a staircase features shaped cut tread ends and turned balusters. Other rooms have panelled doors, architraved surrounds, and contemporary fireplaces. At the rear of the property is a lintel from a 17th-century mansion, reset in the stonework. The lintel is inscribed with the Latin phrase 'Nec glis sit servus, nec hos pes hirudo', which translates to ‘Let not your servant be a doormouse, nor your guest an horseleech’.
