Description
This is a barn located 30 yards north-east of Cooling Castle Gatehouse, dating from the 16th century with a 19th-century extension to the north. The barn is timber-framed, built on brick walls, and covered with weatherboarding. It features a hipped roof with plain tiles and has a central mid-strey. The 19th-century extension is located at the eastern end of the barn. Inside, there are nine bays with aisles, and the roof is supported by braced tie-beams with queen-struts to the collars. The posts are down-braced onto the wall-plates. Notable carpentry work supports the roof over the angle between the barn and the 19th-century extension. Additionally, there is a hay-crane on a swinging-post to the right of the mid-strey.
