Description

Nos 24, 25, and 26 New Road is a terrace of three houses built around 1800. They are constructed of Flemish bond gault brick and feature slate roofs. The buildings are three storeys high with a basement. No 24, located at the west end, retains its original layout, including a ground floor round arched window with an arched upper sash, and two 12-pane sash windows with glazing bars on both the first and second floors, all set under flat rubbed brick arches. The ground floor also has a door and window beneath two concentric rubbed brick arches, with the inner arch recessed. The door is a single panel design with a plain plate glass fanlight above. The second floor has one 8-pane sash window with glazing bars, which is a remnant of the original facade arrangement. The first floors feature a string course that is interrupted by bay window insertions. Each house has a parapet with a lower string and upper coping made of stone. There are recessed channelled brick divisions between each house to accommodate down-pipes, and stacks are located on the end gables and the party wall. The listing includes Nos 25 and 26 despite alterations for their group value.
