Description
19-31 St John's Road is an early 19th-century terrace of houses. The central and end houses project slightly, with three storeys, while the houses in between have two storeys. The terrace is built of chequered brick with red brick dressings. Nos 19 and 21 feature gables with bargeboards, although the finial is missing on No 31. The central house, No 25, has a hipped gable with bargeboards. The intervening houses have gable end slate roofs and wooden eaves cornices. Each house has one recessed sash window with intact glazing bars, except for Nos 21, 29, and part of 31, which have block sills and flat brick arches. Nos 19, 25, and 31 include flat fronted bow windows with three lights on the first floor, featuring glazing bars, Doric pilasters, and a frieze and cornice that break forward at the centre, with plain aprons below. The entrances are paired on Nos 21, 25, 27, and 29. All doors are recessed, with some retaining original panelling, semi-circular fanlights, and rubbed brick arches on wooden imposts.
