Description

The Bat's Wing is a house with two shops, originally marked as 16th century but appearing to be from the 18th century, with an extension of one bay added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble with red brick dressings and features a half-hipped thatched roof, while the extension has a slate roof. The building has two storeys and three windows. The east wall includes an early 19th-century 12-pane sash window on the first floor and a late 18th or early 19th-century shopfront with two wooden curved windows, each containing 24 panes, along with end pilasters, a dentillated cornice, and a doorcase topped with a wooden shell-moulded tympanum. The south elevation features 20th-century casements and a late gabled trelliswork porch. Inside, the east end has a wooden fireplace with paterae flanked by cambered alcoves, and the central part includes a chamfered spine beam.
