Description
The Old Post Office is a house and shop dating from the 16th century, with various extensions from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and encased in red brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building is narrow and positioned sideways to the street, featuring an end chimney stack set within the frame, which remains intact on the inside.
On the gable end, there is a small canted bow window and a 2-light 19th-century casement window on the upper storey, both of which are off-centre. The north side has a 1½ storey lean-to extension made of red brick with a slate roof, featuring casement windows with arched heads. At the north-east end, there is a 1½ storey cross-wing that is rendered and has a pantiled roof. Between these two extensions, there is a single-storey lean-to extension in red brick with a pantiled roof.
On the south side, there is a single-storey double-fronted shop that is roughcast with plain tiles, which includes two canted bay windows and a central door.
