Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory with a core dating back to the 16th century and extensive additions from the early 19th century. The building has a complex and irregular plan, with sections that are part one and a half storeys and part two storeys. The oldest section features a T-shaped plan, constructed with timber framing and plaster, along with early 19th century roughcast panels on the south side and comb-patterning on the west. It has two carved brackets at the eaves of the gable end.
There is an early 19th century single-storey semi-circular extension on the south side made of white brick with a flat lead roof. This section includes one large small-paned sash window and a gabled dormer. To the north, there is a two-storey white brick extension featuring a sash window set in deep reveals. The main range on the southeast side, also from the early 19th century, is two storeys high, constructed of white brick with a string course and a slate roof. It has three small-paned sash windows and a doorway at the west end with a rounded arch and a semi-circular fanlight, though the door itself is from the 20th century. The east side has four blank windows.
The original part of the house has plain clasped purlin roofs without principal rafters. A small north-south range was converted into a stair wing in the mid-18th century, featuring a plaster cornice inside with egg-and-dart decoration and a well-crafted dog-leg stair with turned balusters.
