Description
10 The Esplanade is an early 19th century building that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The exterior is stuccoed, with a cornice and parapet that includes a central panel. The second-floor windows are framed with moulded architrave surrounds and have sills. The first-floor windows are round-headed and topped with a moulded cornice that extends between the windows at the spring of the arches, creating the appearance of pilasters. The glazing bars are intact on both the first and second floors. There are iron balconettes supported by stuccoed piers on the first floor. Originally, the ground floor had two round-headed doorways with pilasters, semi-circular fanlights, and keystones on either side, with the left doorway leading to a passage through the building. Currently, there is a recessed modern plate glass window between the doorways, and although the ground floor has been entirely modernised, the cornice remains. This building is part of a group that includes No 1 and Nos 3 to 14.
