Description

Nos 13 and 14 on The Esplanade are early 19th-century buildings located on a corner site with George Street. They are three storeys tall and constructed of painted brick, topped with a low-pitched hipped roof covered in old tiles. The Esplanade front features a shallow eaves cornice with dentils and a brick sill course at the second floor. There are three recessed sash windows on the Esplanade, which have later glazing bars and flat brick arches, with traces of red brick window dressings.

On the first floor, there are two bay windows with three lights; No 14 has a modern bay window, while No 13 features a 19th-century bay window with fluted pilasters and a projecting moulded cornice, along with a later weatherboarded apron. The George Street side has three slightly recessed sash windows with later glazing bars, one of which has tripartite moulded rendered surrounds.

No 13 has a modern shop front, while No 14 retains remains of a mid-19th-century shop frame, including pilasters, a frieze, and a moulded cornice that extends around the corner to No 2 George Street. This includes a recessed door with four panels and a rectangular fanlight, with the shop door set at the corner.

Nos 1 and 3 to 14 form a group.
