Description
Albany Bars is a building dating from around 1840 to 1850. It stands four storeys high and is faced in stone rubble that mimics brickwork. The building features rendered rusticated quoins, a plain rendered frieze, and a heavily moulded main cornice. The parapet includes three panels of turned balusters. The second floor has a plain frieze and a dentil cornice, while the first floor has a plinth.
There are three recessed windows on the first floor, which are sash and tripartite on the west side, with later glazing bars and plain rendered surrounds. Below the window heads is a row of dentils, and the windows have block sills with consoles on the second floor. The tall first floor windows are topped with pediments on consoles. The ground floor has been entirely modernised.
Albany Bars is part of a group that includes No 1 and Nos 3 to 14.
