Description
Arcadia, located at No 12 on The Esplanade, was built around 1830 to 1840. This four-storey building features a stucco front with a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a parapet adorned with turned balusters. The façade includes a raised central blind panel flanked by capped piers. There is a moulded sill course at the third floor and a block sill course with a plain frieze at the second floor. The building has four windows, with two located in a slightly recessed central bay that reaches up to the main frieze. The third-floor windows are recessed, sash style, with intact glazing bars, while the second-floor windows are similar but have architrave surrounds. The first floor features French windows with architrave surrounds and a bracketed balcony that spans the entire width of the façade, although it has a modern boxed-in balustrade. Arcadia is part of a group with No 1 and Nos 3 to 14.
