House. Circa mid C19; extended later C19. Coursed stone with brick dressings, including quoins and string-courses. Slate hipped roof with deep bracketed eaves and small pediment. Brick axial and lateral stacks. PLAN: Rectangular plan with central entrance, and service wing on right [east] extended later C19. Italianate style. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay south front, narrow centre bay breaks forward with small pediment, 8-pane sashes in moulded architraves, central doorway in moulded architrave with rectangular overlight and panelled door, and with brick porch with round arch with moulded extrados with keyblock and imposts and with entablature [porch added between 1854-5 and 1862, map evidence]. Conservatory on left of ground floor, continued around left [west] side with glazed polygonal turrets at the corners and margin glazing bars. Rear [north] garden front; 3 bays, right 2-storey canted bay and with verandah on ground floor canted around the bay with tent-shaped glazed canopy on ornate openwork piers with spandrels and lattice frieze. Lower 3-bay brick service wing set back on left [east] with hipped slate roof and smaller sashes with glazing bars. INTERIOR not inspected. Millfield House is a good example of an early Victorian Italianate style villa.
