Description

Trethiggey Villa is a house built around 1840-1850, with few later alterations. It is constructed from elvan stone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. The building has stacks on the sides with ashlar shafts and cornices, while the rear left stack has a plainer cornice.

The house has a double depth plan. The entrance front has an off-centre porch to the left, which likely leads to a stair hall. The garden front is located on the right side, with two principal rooms facing the garden and service rooms behind. The villa is designed in an Italianate style.

The entrance front is two-storey and presents an asymmetrical two-window layout with original windows. It features an embattled single-storey porch with two round-arched margin-glazed lights. To the right, there is a contemporary conservatory with round-arched lights, and the front door is situated inside the conservatory. On the first floor, there are two round-arched eight-pane sash windows.

The garden front, located on the right side, has a ground floor that includes a square bay extending across the entire front, with two French windows flanked by sidelights and overlights featuring small round-arched lights. There is a blind round-arched niche in the centre and a round-arched sash window to the left of the bay. The first floor has two paired eight-pane sashes with round arches, along with a central round-arched niche that has a carved fan.

The interior has not been inspected but may still contain good contemporary features such as the staircase and joinery. This villa is an unusual example of an early 19th-century Italianate design, notable for its unaltered fenestration details and high-quality masonry.
