Description

This is a detached villa, built around 1840. It comprises a central range with a rear wing, and double-gabled wings to the left and right. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar with a slate roof.

The house is in a picturesque, asymmetrical Italianate style. The front elevation features sash windows, including two twelve-pane windows in the central gable, a tripartite window with an arched central sash flanked by side-hung casements, and a twelve-pane window to the right. The ground floor includes a twelve-pane window, a door, a large octagonal bay with two arched sash windows featuring cast iron balconettes, and a four-panel door with a fanlight, all within flat surrounds with keystones, impost bands, a blocking course, and a pierced balustrade. To the right is a single-story unit with three narrow lights within a flat surround and impost band, topped with a frieze and cornice. A set-back bay to the right has a twelve-pane sash above a square porch with an entablature, and a pair of doors within an arched opening flanked by small arched lights. There are five ashlar stacks with broad moulded cappings and blocking. The right return has a pair of small arched lights in squared coursed stonework. The rear has a wing with a canted bay to the left, featuring four-pane sashes, and twelve-pane sashes elsewhere, along with a ground-floor tent verandah. The interior of the property has not been inspected. The property retains its original external appearance. It is one of a group of varied villas with similar detailing found along Oldfield Road.
