Description
Oldfield Villa and The Cottage are a detached villa dating from around 1840. The building is constructed from fine ashlar and has a slate roof. It is a compact, symmetrical design with a hipped roof, extended by an extra bay to the right. The villa has two storeys and an attic, originally featuring three windows, now extended to four. The windows are glazing bar sashes. Two dormers with slate cheeks and shaped jambs are set into the roof, each containing four panes. The principal windows have twelve panes and are set within panelled surrounds with brackets to the sills. A broad, square bay window is situated to the left, containing a tripartite four, twelve, four-pane sash within a moulded architrave, cornice, and blocking, raised to a slight pediment. A twelve-pane sash is located to the right of the entrance. The central entrance features a pair of three-panel doors within panelled pilasters and an entablature, slightly recessed and lower than the adjacent bay. To the right is a set-back, crenellated extension, with a twelve-pane window and panelled door below a full-width entablature, which is behind a single-storey lean-to wing. The main range possesses deep, bracketed eaves, with stacks on either side featuring a frieze band to the wide cappings. The interior has not been inspected. Oldfield Villa is one of a group of five high-quality villas along Oldfield Road, each of varying sizes and designs.
