Description
Manuels Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the early to mid 18th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th century and later 20th century changes. It features a datestone marked RS 1617 and is constructed from slatestone rubble and cob, with a rendered finish. The roof is slate, complete with ridge tiles and gable ends, and there are gable end stacks with brick shafts.
The building has a double depth plan, consisting of two front rooms: a larger room on the left and a smaller room on the right, both heated by gable end stacks. There are shallow unheated rear service rooms in an integral outshut. In the mid-19th century, a one-room plan addition was made to the left end, also heated by a gable end stack, and there are single storey loft additions to the front of this addition.
The exterior presents an asymmetrical front with two storeys and three windows, with the upper level rendered. All windows are 19th century 16-pane sashes. A gabled open-fronted porch leads to an inner door that has four panels and is glazed. The left addition is two-storey, featuring similar 16-pane sashes on both floors. The front addition has a three-light 20th century window at ground level and a small four-pane light in the loft. There is a two-light eight-pane casement on the right side of the wing. The right end has a four-pane sash at ground level and a two-light six-pane casement at the first floor. The left side has 20th century 16-pane sashes on both floors, and there is a single storey 20th century addition to the right.
At the rear, there is a six-pane sash window illuminating the staircase, and the ground floor to the right has a three-pane light that used to serve as a dairy. On the rear left side, there is a six-pane 20th century light at ground level and a four-pane sash at the first floor. Inside, the left room in the 19th century addition has panelled shutters on the front window, while the rear outshut has been altered into one room, which includes a staircase.
