Description
Lulworth Lodge is a house built around the 1830s. It features stone rubble construction with brick quoins and window arches, and it was probably originally covered in stucco. The roof is hipped and made of slate, with a brick lateral stack on the side topped with yellow clay pots.
The house has a central entrance plan with rooms on either side, and the room on the right has a projecting bowed front. The east front is asymmetrical and has two storeys plus a basement, with four windows. The right-hand two windows are in a large projecting bowed bay that has a semi-conical roof. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, with the ground floor having 12 panes and the first floor having 9 panes. There is a round-headed window on the first floor to the left of the center. Below this is a doorway with a semi-circular fanlight, a glazed and panelled door, and stone steps that have a reconstructed iron balustrade.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it is said to be intact. Lulworth Lodge is depicted on the 1842 tithe map and is considered a good example of a small late Georgian or early Victorian villa.
