Description
13 John Street is a three-storey building from the mid-19th century. The front elevation is finished in stucco.
The building has a rectangular shape, with long sides facing north at the rear and south at the front onto John Street. It features three bays arranged in a two/one pattern, with the roof being hipped. It is detached on the west side and attached to the side of 165 High Street on the east.
On the exterior, the first and second floors each have three six-over-six horned sash windows. Above the second floor, there is a projecting cornice and a blocking course.
The entrance on the ground floor has a 20th-century glazed door set within a simple neoclassical surround that includes Doric pilasters and a frieze with a plaque reading ‘Vanner House’. To the west of the entrance, there is a plate glass shop window that matches the proportions of the upper windows. To the east of the door, there is a simple shopfront with a wide plate glass window framed by pilasters. Below this window, a stallriser partially surrounds an earlier doorstep, and there is a flat hood above it.
