Description

Nutkins is a cottage orne that has an early to mid 19th century appearance but originates from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick chimneystacks. The building consists of two sections, each two storeys high. The left part has two casement windows and eyebrow dormers, along with a thatched porch supported by rustic posts and a trelliswork balcony. The entrance includes a four-panelled door, with the top two panels being glazed. The right side of the cottage has a higher elevation, made of random rubble and brick quoins. Daniel Nutkins is mentioned in a Subsidy Roll during the reign of Charles I in 1642. Notably, the room to the left of the entrance was used by two ladies as a dance school.
