Description
No. 44 Union Street is a building dating from around the 1830s to 1840s. It stands three storeys high and is finished in cement render. The roof is concealed by a parapet with coping, and there is no cornice. On the second floor, there is one recessed sash window with intact glazing bars. The first floor features a canted bay window with three lights, also sash, but with later glazing bars. This bay is adorned with Tuscan pilasters, a stepped frieze, and a moulded cornice, along with a boarded apron. The building retains the remains of a mid-19th century shop front, which includes fluted pilasters, although it has been modernised. Nos. 44 to 53 Union Street form a group.
