Description
Bridge Court and Bridge Court Cottage are a house and former brew house, dating from circa 1688, with a mid-19th century restoration. They are constructed of Isle of Wight stone rubble with a tiled roof and end brick chimneystacks. Bridge Court is a two-storey and basement building with two windows, featuring gable ends with kneelers, a deep plinth, and a band between floors ramped up over the ground floor windows. The mid-19th century windows are sashes with verticals only and horns. A two-storey stone central porch has a pediment, kneelers, and an obtusely pointed arched doorway. Above the doorway is a date tablet inscribed "AN...1688." The main entrance has a mid-19th century six-panelled door. The rear elevation has three late 17th century mullioned windows, as well as some blocked windows. Bridge Court Cottage, the former brew house, is linked to Bridge Court by a modern block. This part of the complex dates from the late 17th or early 18th century and is built of stone rubble with a tiled roof and casement windows. The manor associated with the building was first mentioned in the 13th century.
