Description
Godshill County Primary School is a primary school that was formerly a grammar school, built in 1826 in a Classical style. It is constructed from coursed stone rubble from the Isle of Wight, with ashlar dressings and a hipped slate roof. The building is one storey high and features three windows. An additional bay was added at the east end in 1881, made of painted brick. There is a gabled projection that contains a tablet and a round-headed doorcase set in arcading, complete with a keystone and impost blocks. The entrance has a round-headed fanlight and double doors, and there are three triple sash windows with keystones. A 20th-century extension at the rear is not of special interest. The inscription on the tablet above the gable reads, "Godshill Parochial School founded by Lady Ann Worsley previous to 1615 rebuilt by the Right Honourable Lord Yarborough 1826."
