Description
Godshill War Memorial is situated in the memorial garden on Church Hill. It features a limestone pillar topped with a pyramidal cap. The pillar has a square shape with chamfered corners, and its front face is adorned with a downward pointing sword of sacrifice and a wreath. The pillar stands on a tapering square plinth, which also has chamfered corners, resting on a stepped base.
The front face of the plinth bears the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF GODSHILL WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919." The names of those who fell in the First World War are incised into the other faces of the plinth, while the top step is further inscribed with "1939 – 1945 (NAMES)."
Access to the memorial is via a shingle path that crosses a green area, and it is enclosed by a low metal post and chain link fence.
