Description

This is a pair of houses located at 1 and 2 St Boniface Road, dating from around 1850 and exhibiting slight Italianate influences. The houses are composed of three-storey gabled wings with low-pitched roofs and deep eaves, and a recessed two-storey centre containing the entrances. The construction is primarily stone rubble with stucco pilaster strips, with the ground floor panels stuccoed. Each gable features a round-headed window with radial glazing. The first floor has coupled round-headed narrow windows, one pair retaining radial marginal glazing, all set within raised arches. Canted bays on the ground floor have marginal glazed French casements. A cornice and stucco parapet adorned with decorative circles extends over the centre, forming a verandah porch with panelled piers. On the first floor of the recessed centre are three narrow round-headed windows with radial marginal glazing, the central one being a false window. The houses have panelled doors with rectangular fanlights. Numbers 1 to 3, along with Veryan, Noryic, Swiss Cottage, and Cressingham, form a group; Swiss Cottage and Cressingham are of local interest.
