Description
No. 143 on High Street is a building dating from around 1840 to 1850. It is three stories tall and has a stucco facade with a single window front, which is flanked by pairs of Doric pilasters. The building features a deep frieze, a projecting cornice, and a parapet that aligns with the tops of the pilasters. On the second floor, there is a small tripartite glazing bar sash window with stucco dividers. The first floor has a tripartite wooden rectangular bay window with glazing bar sash lights, a plain apron, and a projecting cornice. A deep set doorway is topped with a square marginal glazed fanlight.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 143 to 149, which also features Trent House and Strelena, Holy Tree, Aratrum, and Transveno, although only Nos. 145, Trent House, and the others are of local interest.
