Description
The buildings at 147 and 149 High Street date from around 1840 to 1850 and have a stucco facade. Number 147 was originally designed as a taller, central feature between numbers 145 and 149, while number 149 is of two storeys. The roofs are hipped, covered with slate, and have overhanging eaves. Number 147 has three storeys, while number 149 has two. The upper floors each have two windows with glazing bar sashes. The left-hand window on the second floor of number 147 is narrower and has a painted, eared surround. The outer windows on the first floor of both numbers are wider and have console details beneath the sills. The inner windows on the first floor are pilastered, flat-fronted bows. The shop fronts are pilastered, with five-panel doors. A frieze and cornice run across the front, although the appearance of number 149 has been altered by the addition of a canopy. Numbers 143 to 149 (the odd numbers) include Trent House, and Strelena, Holy Tree, Aratrum and Transveno, which are of local interest as a group.
