Description

A pair of semi-detached villas, now divided into flats, were built in the 1880s by William Willett as part of a group of estate buildings along The Drive in Hove. The villas are constructed of yellow stock bricks with extensive decorative moulded and incised brickwork used for cornices, string courses, aprons, and lintels. A rendered basement is present, topped by hipped slate roofs. The roofs feature hipped bay projections into the attic storey, and gabled dormers. Each villa has a plan with a canted bay to the right.

The two-storey buildings, plus a basement, have a 1:3:1:3 bay arrangement. Full-height canted bays are topped with gabled dormers in the roof space, with a hipped attic storey above the entrance bay on the right, but not the entrance bay on the left. The windows are sash windows without glazing bars, set within segmental-headed openings and featuring cills carried on shaped brackets. Round arched entrances have ornate capitals on rusticated piers, leading to recessed panelled doors with fanlights and sidelights. A tessellated pavement extends from No. 65 to the gatepiers. The property includes brick walls with moulded coping and square piers with moulded caps. The walls originally had railings, but these are no longer present.
