Description
No. 59 The Drive is a villa from the 1880s, built by William Willett, and now divided into flats. The building features yellow stock bricks with a rich use of moulded and incised bricks for the cornices, aprons, string courses, and lintels. It has a rendered basement and a hipped slate roof, with a central bay that projects into the attic storey. The stacks form continuous walls on the returns. The villa is double-fronted and consists of two storeys plus an attic over a basement, arranged in a 3:1:3 bay configuration. The windows are sashes without glazing bars set in segmental-headed openings, with cills supported by shaped brackets. Full-height canted bays flank the entrance bay, which features a round arched opening supported by rusticated piers with ornate capitals. The entrance has a recessed panelled door with a fanlight and sidelights, approached by a shallow flight of steps.
