Description
No. 57 The Drive is a villa built in the 1880s by William Willett. It features yellow stock bricks and makes extensive use of moulded and incised bricks for decorative elements such as cornices, aprons, string courses, and lintels. The basement is rendered, and the roof is covered with plain tiles, including a 20th-century dormer and end stacks, creating continuous walls on the returns. The villa has a double-fronted design with two storeys plus an attic over a basement, arranged in a 3:1:3 bay configuration. Full-height bays flank a central bay, and the sash windows are set in segmental-headed openings with cills supported by shaped brackets. The entrance is round-arched and supported by rusticated piers with ornate capitals, leading to a recessed panelled door with a fanlight and sidelights, approached by a shallow flight of steps. This building is part of a group of Willett buildings in The Drive.
