Description

Numbers 1-11 and attached railings are a row of terraced houses dating back to around 1850, with number 1 believed to be of a later date. The houses are constructed of stucco, with slate roofs visible in most cases, except number 3 which has a tiled roof.

The houses are arranged over three storeys with a basement, although number 1 has four storeys and numbers 2-7 have dormers. Each house has three windows. The facades feature full-height, almost full-width, segmental bays. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication and includes a flat-arched porch with pilasters, an entablature, and a doorcase with overlight. All windows are flat-arched. The first-floor windows are framed with architraves, a pediment over the central window, and floating cornices. A continuous, bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings runs along the first floor. There is also a storey band, second-floor windows with architraves, a dentil cornice, a parapet, and dormers in a mansard roof. Stacks are located on the party walls.

Number 1 has a flat-arched entrance on Powis Road, with elevations that generally match those of the buildings in Powis Square and an additional attic storey. Number 4 has a panelled door of original design. Number 11 has a return section with a flat-arched entrance consistent with the details in the rest of the square, and individual cast-iron balconies to the outer first-floor windows.

The interiors were not inspected during the listing process. Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present on the steps and to the areas. Powis Square is laid out in the shape of a U, split in half along its curve.
