Description

No. 14, which includes the front area garden walls, is a villa built in the 1880s by William Willett. It is now used as a nursing home. The building features yellow stock bricks with extensive use of moulded and incised bricks for decorative elements such as cornices, lintels, aprons, and string courses. The basement is rendered, and the roof is hipped with slate, including a hipped roof over the central projecting bay. The villa has paired brick stacks with moulded caps on the returns.

The plan is double-fronted with two storeys plus an attic over a basement, arranged in a 3:1:3 bay configuration. Full-height canted bays flank the central bay, which rises through the attic. The window openings are segmental-headed, featuring sash windows without glazing bars, with cills supported on shaped brackets. The central bay has paired windows in the attic and on the ground floor above a round arched opening, which is supported by rusticated piers with foliate capitals.

There is an original lamp set in the fanlight above the recessed door, which has sidelights with original painted leading and half-glazed inner double doors. Access is provided by a shallow flight of steps, with a low wall returning to the piers. The front garden is enclosed by a brick wall and piers with moulded stone caps, although the cast-iron railings are missing. This villa is part of a notable group with Nos. 3 and 8 Eaton Gardens.
