Description
Strawberry Lane Baptist Church, formerly known as Strawberry Lodge, dates back to the 18th century with a 19th-century extension. The building is two storeys high and features later cement rendering. It has a gable end slate roof, with the eaves concealed by a parapet and a heavy dentil cornice, along with a plain frieze and a band between the storeys. There are three dormers with moulded cornices and gables, five windows, and two additional windows in the 19th-century extension. The central bay in the taller wing projects forward. The sash windows lack glazing bars but have moulded frames. The ground floor of the taller wing includes two large rendered 19th-century bays, each containing three sash windows, topped with a cornice and parapet that features three balustraded panels above. The central door is adorned with an impressive early 18th-century plain shell hood supported by brackets. Access is provided by a flight of nine steps, which are flanked by wrought-iron railings with urn finials. Records indicate that the house has been traced back to 1782.
