Description

Nonsuch Cottage is a 17th-century building located on the south-west side of Malden Road in Cheam. It is two storeys high and features a timber-framed structure with 18th-century weatherboarding. The cottage has two gables with a parapet between them and at the corners. On the first floor, there is a two-light leaded casement window to the left and a three-light casement window to the right. The ground floor includes an old three-light leaded window to the left, a central flush-panelled door with bottle glass lights, an 18th-century surround and hood, and to the right, a small canted bay with casements and a flat roof. The main house roof is covered with old tiles, and the original wall is made of chalk blocks, which divides the house. Additionally, two rooms were added to the rear at a later date. Nonsuch Cottage is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 9 (odd) Malden Road, the garden wall to the north of Nos 1 and 5 Malden Road, the Rectory, garden walls, and laundry in the grounds of the Rectory, as well as Nos 45 to 57 (odd) The Broadway and Nos 1 to 25 (odd) Park Lane.
