Description

7-11 West Street comprises a terrace of three properties dating from the early to mid 18th century, with later alterations. They are situated on the west side of West Street, Carshalton.

Numbers 7 and 9 are two-storey buildings with slate hipped roofs and overhanging eaves supported by brackets. The facades are constructed of brown brick. Number 7 has three window bays. The first floor features a central round-headed window with a stuccoed archway, flanked by rectangular-headed windows with stuccoed architraves. A six-step flight leads to a central pilastered porch with a deep entablature; to either side of the porch are sash windows with stuccoed archivolts and cornices on brackets. Number 9 has two window bays and a central doorway. Both numbers have sash windows, some of which have lost their glazing bars. The brick voussoirs are rubbed. A six-step flight leads to a pilastered porch with a six-panelled door. The rear walls are weatherboarded.

Number 11, dating from the 19th century, has a later 19th-century shop front and one window bay continuing the frontage of Number 9. It has a three-pane sash window above and a six-panelled door with the top two panels cut away and glazed below. To the north, a wing projects forward to the street, featuring a separate hipped slate roof and a slightly higher frontage. In the south return, a single three-pane sash window is located at the east end. The street front has no windows to the first floor, which overhangs and is supported by later 19th-century wooden posts related to an open shop front; shutters, doors, and blue and white tiles remain. The fascia displays the words "Parker & Sons Estabd 1896". The north return is rendered and contains two sash windows.
