Description
Elmfield House is an 18th-century building that now serves as Borough Council Offices. It is constructed of brown brick with red dressings and features three storeys with a façade that has a 2½:1;2½ window arrangement. The center of the front slightly projects, with half window panels at either end. A brick parapet and small brick cornice are present above each floor. The windows are 18th-century in style, set in moulded frames. A later Greek Doric porch is located at the center of the front.
The left side of the building displays late 17th-century or early 18th-century work in plum brick, including a two-storey wing from this period, with the ground floor (partly modern) built out flush with the front. The back elevation mirrors the front but has half windows inserted on either side of the center, which features an enlarged round-headed window on the first floor and a round window on the second floor. There is also a later splayed bay on the right side.
Additionally, there is a plain brick garden wall dating from the late 17th to early 18th century that runs back to the right of the street front. Inside, one room contains painted plasterwork from the late 17th or 18th century.
