Description
Number 6, now Borough House and comprising five flats and offices, was built in the mid-18th century with later alterations in the early 19th and late 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick and painted brick, with a slate roof and gable end stacks. It is three storeys high, featuring stone coped verges and modillioned stone cornices. There are five windows on each floor, with the first floor having glazing bar sashes under enriched, wedged lintels with fluted keystones and stone sills. The second floor windows are similar, but with six panes to each sash. The ground floor has two canted bay windows with hipped slate roofs, each containing two glazing bar sashes, and eared and shouldered architraves. The entrance to the left-hand corner is approached by five stone steps, and features an early 19th century wooden doorcase and half-glazed door. A single-storey early 19th century extension to the right has a brick coped parapet and a band. It contains one window with a top-hung casement under a plastered wedge lintel to the right, and an entrance approached by four stone steps with a pilastered wooden doorcase and six-panelled door to the left. The interior includes an open well staircase with turned balusters, iron twist newels and a carved open string.
