Description

This detached house, located at 27 Lancaster Road, London, was designed in 1899 by Edmund W Wimperis. It is constructed of red brick with a tiled, pitched roof behind gables. The house is arranged over two storeys plus a roof storey, with three bays in width. The two outer bays feature shaped gables. The central entrance is set within a segmental headed recess and contains a projecting, timber-framed canted porch. Within the porch is a pilastered doorway, topped by a segmental tympanum above a flat-roofed, canted timber bay to the right. A similar canted bay with a pitched roof is to the left. The upper storey has Ionic rubbed brick pilasters that rise into the gables to a moulded cornice. The windows are square-headed sashes, some with glazing bars. The roof storey windows are located within the gables and incorporate inset Ipswich motifs. A moulded parapet tops the building, and there is a central square-headed dormer. The side returns are similar in design.
