Description

This is a row of cottages dating from the mid to late 19th century, forming part of a planned residential development. The cottages are constructed of polychrome brick with tall Welsh slate roofs, some half-hipped and some hipped at a lower level to the east, with cross-gabled elements to the west. A cogged eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, and a prominent projecting stack is visible on the west return.

Number 4, located on a corner site, is two storeys high and has three bays. It has an irregular facade with casement windows set beneath pointed relieving arches. A half-hipped dormer window breaks through the roof. The ground floor features a canted bay on the left, with cogged cornices and a hipped slate roof. There is a boarded front door sheltered by a flint-slated hood supported on brackets.

Numbers 16 to 20, located along Church Road, are two storeys high with one wide and one narrow bay, each with a large, shared gable. These cottages also have casement windows with pointed relieving arches, and ground floor canted bays with cogged cornices and hipped slate roofs. Numbers 18 and 20 originally had paired doors recessed within a deep opening, but the porch screen has since been removed. Brick forecourt walls with corniced coping surround the cottages. The row is an integral part of the Belvedere Square planned development and is closely related to numbers 5 to 13, 17 to 31, and 22 to 26 Church Road.
