Description
The Cottage Hotel, now known as The Red Lion Hotel, is a two-storey building with four windows that dates back to the 16th century. It features a tiled roof with four gables that have an early 17th-century appearance, including one above a projecting staircase bay. The building has a central compound brick chimney stack and another chimney on the left, both with diagonal shafts. The walls are now roughcast, and the windows are 19th-century leaded casements. There are modern extensions at the rear. Inside, there is a very wide Tudor fireplace, which has been plastered, and a smaller fireplace upstairs. The main room has a stout beam with an ogee chamfer stop, and there is a screen of columns in the hall. The Red Lion Public House, located at 369 Royal Lane, and The Red Lion Hotel form a group with this building.
