Description
Cedars House, originally listed as The Cedars, dates back to around 1580, with the northern part remodeled in the 18th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features two storeys and attics, with a façade of three double-hung sash windows, separated by one window, all with rubbed flat arches and flush wooden surrounds. The attic windows have two-light diamond leaded casements with wooden mullions and transoms. There is a central projection that rises two storeys, topped with three gables that have brick coping. The first floor has a band, and there is a dentil cornice and old tiles on the roof. Modern one and two-storey additions have been made, and a rainwater head dated 1620 is located on the north wall.
Inside, there is one restored panelled room that contains some Elizabethan and Jacobean panelling, along with a fireplace that has a carved beam above it. The ceiling features chamfered beams and joists. Another room showcases complete panelling from the mid-17th century, while yet another room has linenfold panelling. The side purlin roof has been much restored and is now opened up as a drawing office, with the original chimney rising through it.
