Description

This building is a house located immediately to the east of the Red Lion Public House, dating from the 16th century and later. It features a rendered timber frame set on a brick plinth, with a single-storeyed lean-to extension made of flint and brick on the east gable end. The roofs are covered with pantiles. Inside, there is an open hall with a 17th-century inserted floor and stack, creating a lobby entrance type plan. A later one-bay extension has been added to the east, along with another single-storeyed lean-to extension. The house has one and a half storeys and presents a street facade with two 18th-century three-light mullion and transom windows, each with single metal casements, and one two-light casement window with glazing bars. There is a 19th-century panelled door located opposite the off-centre axial stack, along with a shop front featuring a boarded stable door and a late 19th-century sash window with pairs of vertical glazing bars. The building also has two four-panel two-light casement dormers, one on each side of the stack. The rear facade includes two boarded doors, an 18th-century two-light mullion and transom window with a metal casement, a 19th-century single-light casement, and a late 20th-century window. Inside, some sections of the timber frame are visible, showing jowled wall posts and tension bracing at the corners. The roof is later, and there are some 17th-century boarded doors with strap hinges. A notable feature is a fine 18th-century fixed corner cupboard with raised and fielded panelled doors and shaped shelving.
