Description

Cosy Corner is a cottage dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which was refronted and had its eaves raised around 1840. The building features a render over clay lump and timber frame with wattle and daub infill, and part of the rear wall was rebuilt in mid-19th century brick. It has a gabled pantile roof and a brick stack at the right end. The cottage has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a two-window range. The entrance includes an 18th-century plank door, flanked by three mid-19th century sixteen-pane sash windows and a 20th-century three-light casement window to the left of the door. There is a small 20th-century extension at the rear. To the left of the main cottage is a mid-19th century bakehouse, constructed of render over clay lump and brick, featuring a gabled pantile roof, a 20th-century door, and an 18-pane fixed-light casement window with one opening pane. Inside, the cottage retains an exposed timber frame with wattle and daub infill, a stop-chamfered beam in the room to the right, and a bay to the left that has an 18th-century plank door set in a mud and stud partition, along with another 18th-century plank door leading to 19th-century winder stairs. The roof structure consists of two bays with a queen-post truss. This building is included for its group value only.
