Description
The Old Cottage is a 17th-century house located on Ockendon Road in Corbets Tey. It is two storeys tall and has a rendered, colourwashed exterior with an irregular facade. On the northeast side, there are two gabled dormers above the first floor, which rise from the wall face. Below these dormers, there is one three-light and one two-light casement window. The ground floor features two 18th-century doorcases with pediments on brackets, which now contain windows. Additionally, there are casement windows on the ground floor and a modern off-centre five-sided projection with a tall tiled roof and windows on the front three sides. A door is located on the southwest face of this projection, and above the casement to the southwest of the door, there is another casement window. The roof is made of old tiles, with the southwest half being taller and having a slightly higher eaves line. There is an old brick stack with four diagonal shafts. The return elevation facing Corbets Tey Road is also two storeys high, three windows wide, and rendered, featuring a central doorcase with an 18th-century hood on shaped brackets and three-light casement windows. The hipped roof is made of old tiles, and there is a small modern end stack.
