Description
These are early 19th-century villas, located on the north side of Blackheath Park. There are five villas, numbered 23 to 27, each originally designed with three windows across two storeys and a basement. The central window on the first floor of each has been blocked. They have low-pitched, slate roofs with visible eaves. The walls are made of multicolored stock brick. The recessed sash windows have brick arches above them; the first-floor windows have flat glazing bars, while those on the ground floor have round-headed glazing bars. The ground-floor windows of number 25 are French doors with margin lights, which open onto small wrought-iron balconies. Four steps, with a wrought-iron handrail, lead up to the six-panel doors, some of which now incorporate glazed panels. These doors have cornice heads and rectangular fanlights, with a patterned fanlight at number 25; they are within panelled surrounds. The doorcases feature reeded pilasters and pediment-shaped hoods supported by curved brackets. A late 19th-century conservatory extends from the right angle of number 25. A modern extension for a garage has been added to the left side of number 23. Numbers 7 to 27 (odd), together with the coachhouse to the east of number 27, form a group.
