Description
23 King William Walk is a building constructed between 1840 and 1850. It has three storeys and features two windows on the front. The exterior is finished in stucco, with rusticated pilasters that support a cornice and parapet. Flat pilasters with domed finials are also present. There is a cill band at the second floor. The second floor sash windows have moulded architraves with glazing bars, while the first floor has three grouped round-arched windows with flat surrounds, keystones, impost blocks, and a bracketed common cill. The ground floor has mid-19th century shop fronts, which have had their glazing altered, but the bracketed cornice remains.
There is a four-panel door located at the angle of the building, accompanied by a plain rectangular fanlight. To the right, there is a six-panel door with a similar fanlight. The south angle of the building, which faces Turnpin Lane, is rounded and rebated. The building has five sash windows with glazing bars, some of which have been replaced, while those in the east bay are blocked. The cornice and blocking course are intact. The ground floor features pilasters and a modified entablature, with mid to late 19th century shop fronts at either end and one window between them.
The building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 28 King William Walk.
