Description
25 Nelson Road is a building constructed in 1829 by Joseph Kay. It features three storeys and an attic, with four windows, plus an additional window at the rounded corner facing Nelson Road. The building has a slated mansard roof that includes three round-arched dormers. The exterior is finished in stucco and has an entablature and blocking course supported by four giant pilasters, one on either side of the outer bays. Wreaths are featured in the frieze above the pilasters. There is a cill band at the first floor, and the sash windows, which have glazing bars, are adorned with moulded architraves. The outer windows on the second floor are segment-headed. The first-floor windows have friezes and cornices and open onto a full-width wrought iron balcony that rests on the cornice of a late 19th-century shop front, which also has a rounded angle to Nelson Road. The upper windows at the angle have plain reveals and are also sash windows with glazing bars. No 25 Nelson Road is part of a group with Nos 15 to 25 Nelson Road.
