Description

The building to the south of Devonport House, now part of the Nurses' Home, was originally the Hospital Boys' School, constructed in 1783 by William Newton. It retains a symmetrical design that once featured a nine-bay front and three-bay projecting end wings. Currently, the north wing and the north bay of the main block have been removed, and the building now adjoins the new Nurses' Home.

This structure has three storeys and an attic. The slightly projecting three-bay former centerpiece includes a raised stone attic with three wide three-light windows framed by flat pilasters. The low-pitched slated roof has three flat dormers, and the end wing features a pedimented front. A stone modillion cornice and blocking course adorn the top of the building.

On the second floor, there are low casement windows with glazing bars set beneath near-flat, gauged brick arches. The first floor has long casement windows under round gauged brick arches, accompanied by a stone impost band. The center window in the end wing is round arched, with low, flat-arched flanking windows and a round recess above the band. Sunk brick panels are located below the windows, and there is a stone string course on the first floor. The ground floor sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in an arcaded front with gauged, near-flat brick arches and a stone springing band. There are two plain doors on the left side of the building.
