Description

MATERIALS: granite.

DESCRIPTION: St Martin's War Memorial comprises a rough-hewn granite wheel-head cross and shaft set on a tapered plinth with the inscriptions leaded and painted black. In the centre of the cross is the inscription “HE GAVE HIMSELF”.

The main inscription, located on the bottom of the shaft, reads TO THE / GLORY OF GOD / AND IN PROUD AND / GRATEFUL MEMORY / OF THE MEN FROM / THIS PARISH / WHO FELL IN THE / GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918. The plinth bears the names of the fallen of the First World War.
